New Theme

I’m officially in love with my new theme. I liked the previous one, but even though it was a premium theme, it didn’t work so well as I had expected. The search box apparently didn’t work, neither did scrolling back to older posts. And I think people were fed up with having to click through to find my posts, so I resorted back to something that would show my posts clearer on the very first page.

I know the design probably takes some getting used to, but what has me absolutely psyched is the Lifestream to the right. I first tried to simply implement a Lifestream plugin, but I can’t because this blog apparently still resides on a server with php4. I vaguely remember having complained about that with Yourhosting before, and I am going to do so again. I think last time they offered to move the contents, but I would have to move all the database shit myself, and by now my blog has become so large that it is impossible for me to make a database dump and then feed it back into a new database. I get timeout errors while trying to do that. So Yourhosting will have to do shit themselves. I hope they will.

Anyhow, the Lifestream. Olli and I discussed in the Fiddler how microblogging such as Twitter is so much easier these days, which is why I usually resort to that instead of really posting on my blog. He mentioned the Lifestream plugin (which for above reasons didn’t work) – so I still had no way to aggregate my daily things on the web right on my blog. Until I found this theme which simply offerend me everything in one from the get-go. Together with my iPhone it’s a powerful publishing tool to just update my blog on-the-go: it shows Delicious tags, flickr posts (I can publish to flickr from my iPhone), tweets, and includes four customisable RSS feeds. Great!

I also upgraded my blog to the latest version of WordPress. I think I’ve now officially lost my Disclose-Secret plugin, so I can’t put stuff behind lock and key anymore. Not that I used that very often. Still, it is handy sometimes just in case I want to blog about something, for instance, work-related. I will have to go and find another plugin that works with 2.7. I won’t upgrade any of the blogs on my space before I find something to replace it with (except Kunstkoppie which I already upgraded due to other issues).

I think 2.7 looks pretty neat on the backend – things are just organised way better. And it was a breeze to install … nice!
