Grote Kerk Breda

Despite being so tired I really had to go and do something today, so I drove to the center of town to take some outdoor shots of the church. It was freaking hot, and I had two huge blisters on my heels before I could blink. Meh.

The day did pay off though. Upon arriving at the center, I noticed that nowadays the church is open for visitors – for free even – and I’d never had a chance to go inside. So I did, and I didn’t regret it. It’s definately breathtaking – I think it’s been renovated not only outside but inside as well recently and it did really show off. I cursed myself for not bringing my tripod, so I had to make do with a steady hand and whatever support I could find within the church.

Grote Kerk in Breda I’d been shooting pics of the ceiling and crossvaults, lit a candle, and was just about ready to leave when I turned around for the last time and my eye fell on the gorgeously lit side aisle. I’d been taking photographs there before, but at that point, the sun hadn’t been shining outside. Do you ever have a moment when things just click? I had one right there and then. The way the pillars were lit, and the sunlight slanted down, making the floor tiles shine … oh boy. So I turned around, set my cam to multi-bracket, and started shooting. I am so fucking happy with the result!!
