Phonecalls, visits and a new television

Ok, in our quest for a new television we’ve been bombarded with jargon. LCD, plasma, progressive, interlaced, HD-ready, Full HD, widescreen, resolutions, HDMI, VGA to name a few. I think we’ve settled on a 37″ 720P Samsung which is HD-ready, but apparently LG has quite good screens as well and we just might have to take a look at the screens and how they perform at the local Mediamarkt tonight.

While I was at it, I’ve kicked out KPN’s Digitenne which sucked monkeyballs anyway, and went back to Casema (boo! hiss!). They do deliver digital tv via cable though, which should be substantially better quality wise, and also has more channels. I’ll finally have BBC 1 and 2 back, and hopefully a reliable NL 1, 2 and 3. Things should kick in around the 15th of the month. I was lucky, got a nice deal with Casema for the digital decoder. Usually they cost around 99 euro’s, and then you have to get the smart card a 29 bucks too. But since we are “new” clients, we got the entire package for 59 bucks. Hah.

Just hope to have an up and running television before saturday, when the girls arrive for a movie weekend. I should not forget to get a component cable for the XBOX so we can use it as a dvd player.

Other things I did today was a quick visit to the hairdresser in town who works with Great Length extentions, to inform myself of the possibilities. In short: it’s possible for me to have a really nice head of full hair, but at the cost of 337 euro’s per 5 months. Eh. No, thanks. I thought about it long and hard on the bus but decided that I’d rather have that new tv and well, I’ll just have to accept my head as it is ;)

Furthermore I scheduled an appointment with the county official who’ll marry us. He was very excited we had asked specifically for him and is looking forward to things, as do we. Plus, I had a quick convo with the local apothecary on our inoculations – we should be able to pick them up shortly. It’s HepA, DTP and Stomach Typhoid. Arno’s not looking forward to it, but it really is smart to get them.

And now I need to go type a long-awaited mail to our sweet CM!

You two should check http://life.tweakers.net/reviews/870/platte-televisies-roundup-inleiding-en-uitleg-bij-de-tests.html on tweakers.net… no test yet, but good info on the use and uselessness of certain info of LCD tvs

If you still have confusion over TVs you can email Den…. he’s been doing a ton of research on TVs lately and he keeps spouting off gobbeldy-gook to me.
