Asia
I am still looking in shock at the news every night: the death toll because of the seaquake in Asia is rising and rising. Approaching 70.000 … and governments suspect to double that amount, not in the least because they fear epidemics because of contaminated drinking water and corpses left out to rot too long ~cringes~
I cannot imagine what it must be like. One moment you are going through your normal daily life and the next everything around you is in shambles. If you are lucky to be alive you face the death of loved ones … can you imagine that journalists reported that there was no one – NO ONE – they talked to who didn’t have a missing or dead family member? That is just heartbreaking.
What I find even more appalling is that I just read that thieves dress up like policemen and caregivers and then proceed to rob people who’ve already been robbed of just about everything. That is cruelty beyond belief if you ask me.
On Dragonmount everyone is desperately counting the Asian members to see whether anyone was hit by the disaster. So far, everyone I know of has turned up. I personally do not know anyone in the hit areas, but I keep thinking of a friend of Gino’s, Igor, who was born in Indonesia (his father worked for Shell) and who undoubtedly has lots of friends in the area.
Yesterday here at work we held a fundraiser and collected around 400 euro’s. It is not much, but at least it is something. I didn’t have any more on me than 5 euro’s, otherwise I’d given more ![]()
The good news is that our CEO’s doubled the amount to 800 euro’s. And just now I read that a city in Holland, Hoorn (hah, all good comes from Hoorn eh Lannie?
) gives 1 euro for every citizen. That’s 68.000 euro’s! And they’re encouraging that to every county and city here in Holland.

And you know what makes me so fucking mad? That stupid paper of ours, the Telegraaf, has the gall to put “TEN DUTCH TOURISTS DIED” in bold and capitals on the frontpage, without even so much as alluding to the total death toll. Yes, I know, ten tourists died, and for the families involved that is awful. But ten dead countrymen is nothing compared to the tragedy that is going on over there. Compare that ten to seventy thousand … and you’ve got less than a speck of dust ~rolls eyes~

I know what you mean…. on the news year I keep hearing about how they think there are three, maybe four canadians dead over there. I just found that so odd. 70,000 dead, but we mourn three?
