Move!
I’m trying to coordinate an internal move around here: 57 people from the fourth en fifth floors are going to find mixed workspaces on the 4th floor. If there is one thing I have learned from this project is: never think you can have everything under control where people are concerned.
I’ve been trying to match everything up for the last two weeks now. Basically, everyone is going to move. Two rooms maybe are going to stay the same. Which means that over 50 people are packing their belongings right now, clearing out their cabinets, stickering everything with a number I’ve assigned them, so that this weekend the movers can start building up the rooms again with the appropriate furniture and move all the boxes with stuff to the appropriate places.
I thought I was done, when I went home yesterday, but of course you always find those little things that everyone seems to forget: our secretary went home yesterday in the middle of the day because her kid was sick and left the entire room for me to pack and clean up. We have a storage space for used pc’s and monitors here on the fourth, which is going to be used as a room proper, so all the pc’s have to go. Where on earth should I put them? Space enough on the first floor, but none of these rooms have locks. I need to find me someone who can install a lock in a door.
People all of a sudden start complaining about rooms they are going to be put in, even though everything was approved and consented before. People jump like vultures on the available boxes and stickers and then complain there isn’t enough. I ordered three hundred stickers people. Make due with what you have. And no, we are not going to move full cabinets. Pack boxes, let the boxes be moved, then unpack them. And when I ask you to put the number I assigned you on the stickers, then don’t come to me asking me whether you should put your name on there. Read people. Read!
I really hope that when I come here on monday, I will find an orderly department.
